3 Advantages of Social Marketing

Posted on June 12th, 2009 | by John Baril |

If you are not a person who loves to socialize and meet new people, signing up for a social networking website may not spark much of your enthusiasm. All the profile tweaking, comment posting, and friend inviting may seem like tedious activities to you but once you experience the results, you might be surprised to admit that joining was actually worth it. This is because social networking websites are not all about developing friendships and romantic relationships; they can also be used as a marketing strategy. With social marketing, you get to promote your business while having fun! If you are still unconvinced, spare a few minutes to read about three of its primary advantages.

First, social networking websites let you target niches. They filter the members according to their interests allowing you to separate your contacts into “groups” or invite new ones. Thus, the task of finding a group of individuals who are interested in your business is already eliminated for you. This also assures you that the likelihood of getting your messages read is very high since you no longer have just a random audience. Social marketing can save you the trouble of crossing out from your list, the people who are not really interested in what you have to offer.

Second, compared to the conventional marketing techniques, the use of social marketing would definitely cost you a lot less. Other techniques such as pay-per-click advertising involve some money from you. And worse, whether or not the clicks you get end up in a sale, you would still pay. Social networking websites, on the other hand, would only cost you your time! A few minutes to sign up, an hour or two for setting up your profile, and a matter of minutes to locate your niche group and browse through other people’s profiles and start inviting are all you have to put in.

Third, using social marketing to effectively promote your business does not require you to be an expert. A bit of marketing knowledge or experience would help, but the fact remains that as long as you can speak and write grammatically well in English, you will find yourself halfway to launching a promotion campaign that would work. You need not have a ton of skill and expertise to make money!
