Recession
Marketing Strategies For People Starting An Online Business

Many
Internet marketers right now are worried about how they will respond to
the
worldwide recession that is upon us. Do you have a recession marketing
strategy
in place? If you are just starting an online business, do you have a
recession
proof business plan?
There
are a lot of people who would consider this to be a bad time for
starting an
online business, but I can assure you that they are very wrong.
People
tend to react to a recession in several different ways, depending on
their
present situation. Interestingly, however, they do continue to buy
things –
they just switch the items that they buy. Keep this in mind then when
you build
your recession proof marketing strategy.
The
key then to doing Internet marketing during a recession is to know what
it is
that people want to buy, and why they want to do it. Knowing this is
the key to
having your business thrive during a recession.
There
is a general feeling of prosperity and confidence during a boom. People
tend to
have excess cash and they will spend it more freely as this makes them
feel
good. This boom environment is, admittedly, a great one for starting an
online
business.
In
a recession, however, people quit buying luxuries as they now have
concerns
about their financial security. In this scenario, people will put off
buying
“big ticket” items such as a new car or appliance.
Some
examples of things that people buy in a recessionary environment
include second
hand items, inexpensive spare parts, cheaper food sources, home cooking
devices, do-it-yourself products and books and anything else that can
help them
live more cheaply.
When
people follow this buying pattern shift, the doors open up for
recession
targeted Internet business. Let’s look at some examples.
1.
eBay:
It is likely that eBay will experience a new surge in growth as people
start
selling off non required or unused items. They will also increasingly
be
purchasing second hand items using this system. Others, still, will
view eBay
as an excellent choice for starting an online business.
2.
How
To Ebooks: cheap ebooks that show people how to save or even
to make money
are always very popular in a recession. You can either write your own
ebook or
find one of the many ebook packages online that offer re-branding
rights. With
resell rights, you won’t have to “re-invent the
wheel” and you can start to
sell the ebook right away.
3.
Offer
business start up advice: many people love the idea of
starting an online
business but they think that it will be too expensive. This creates an
excellent opportunity to provide advice on making Internet income and
spending
very little money to do so. You can teach these people many of the free
marketing methods out there such as, blogging, traffic exchanges,
article
marketing, forum marketing and many others.
4.
Basic
financial advice: Now this isn’t sophisticated
finance that I am speaking
of here. I am talking about basic common sense financial advice that
many
people have never learned. Many of these people will now want to know
about how
to create a household budget, manage credit card debt, and other basic
financial advice. Remember to keep the re-branded ebooks market in mind
for
this scenario. There are a lot of financial advice ebooks out there
with master
resell rights.
If you can view
the recession as a reason to
sell valuable things online to those in need, then you will find that
there are
countless ways for starting an online business that will be recession
proof.
