The use of social marketing is a guaranteed way to promote your business but it does not entail one secret “formula”. You will find that there are countless social media tools available which you can use in many different approaches to effectively market your business. Some of the top social networking websites today include Facebook, Twitter, Tagged, Plurk, Myspace, LinkedIn and YouTube. In fact, Facebook is currently the 5th most visited website and adds approximately 500,000 new members each day!

When correctly incorporated in your marketing campaign, social marketing websites can give immense control to expand your online business. Just imagine how many members Facebook grows each day and the fact that these members could be your potential customers!

However, some Internet marketers who have not fully grasped the concept on how to generate sales from individuals in their social networks find social marketing to be a waste of time, much to their disadvantage. When using a social networking website to advertise your business, you must be very careful because people do not like it when you are just using the network as a front while making money. You must be able to know them, establish a relationship with them, build up their trust, and maintain it.

Let us say that you have already joined a social network, and made some friends. The next step is to build a strong relationship with them and make a sale. One of the most effective ways of doing this is by hosting an event. Examples of these events are done online such as teleseminars and webinars. Of course, you could also host an event done in person. When you have decided on the type of event to host, follow the tips below. These tips will allow you to acquire huge amounts of free and well-targeted real-time leads.

1. Write an online press release some time before the actual event and have it submitted to some online press release websites that allow free submission such as PressAbout. Make sure that what you have written is embedded with the proper keywords. Set up a Google alert on these keywords; once you are alerted, it means that your press release has already been published. You will find that your website will begin to direct much traffic once your press release gets picked up.

2. If you happen to have your own blog or website, write about the event and put it there. You could also make some editing and modifications to turn it into an article and have it posted on popular social networks like Facebook.

3. Make a PowerPoint presentation about the substance of the event and about yourself. Together with a transcript, post it on SlideShare.

4. Convert this presentation into a video and upload it on YouTube. If you do not know how to do this, there are many websites which offer free downloads of PowerPoint Presentation-To-Video Converter software.

5. Surely, you have some friends who are included in at least one social network. Tell them about the event and ask them to tell others about it as well.

Do not forget to include something about yourself. Invite people to sign up for the event. Also, remind them about it prior to and on the day of the event via email.

Aside from the abovementioned, there are still many other approaches to using social marketing out there. These five, however, are surefire ways to produce leads. If you can provide interesting and helpful content during the event, you are likely to convert strangers to buyers.

I wish you the best of success,
