Twitter Marketing Series #5: An Overview Of The Tweetdeck Application For Twitter Use

If you are into Twitter use and have not seen much return on your investment of time and effort, maybe you could use a more efficient way of working with Twitter.

If you really want to build an effective network with Twitter, you're going to have to spend a lot of your time cultivating friendships. Unfortunately, the more time you devote to cultivating your Twitter network, the less time you will have to devote to other essential aspects of building a business on the Internet.

Happily for you though, several applications have been produced to help you manage your Twitter use more effectively. Recently, a new resource called Tweetdeck was brought out and it has been getting some positive reviews in the blogosphere.

So what is Tweetdeck?

Tweetdeck enables ambitious Twitter users to maintain a more intense degree of interaction with followers on Twitter without having to spend the whole day tweeting.

Unlike rival applications, Tweetdeck can sort your network of tweeters into ten unique rows and view the whole lot of them on the screen simultaneously. This means you can define and tag different groups of followers.

The default setting for Tweetdeck is three columns which split the tweets into messages that appear on your tweet page, @replies you send out, and direct messages that you send and receive.

At the top of the Tweetdeck page there are some icons. Each one creates a particular type of column when you click on it. For example, if you click the group button, a new column will appear with a list of the people who are following you. To create a specific group, all you have to do is click on the people who you want to include and choose a group name. This feature allows you to easily manage a number of conversations at the same time.

Tweetdeck also allows you to set up keyword searches. When the keyword is contained within any message, that message will appear in the respective keyword search column, even if you are not following the person who sent message. You can of course choose to add to your categories from those who post messages containing the keyword you selected.

Give Tweetdeck a try and you'll quickly realize that it offers marketers a powerful way to connect with people who share common interests, or who may be in the market for the products that you offer.

Because of the number of columns Tweetdeck can work with, the program tends to spread across the computer screen. Happily though, when you don't want to use it, you can easily minimize it. Once it has been minimized, it is easy to monitor, as a small window stays open at the top of the screen. If you don't mind being distracted every so often, you can configure it to "tweet" each time it receives a message.

Tweetdeck offers active Internet marketers who are involved in Twitter use a convenient solution to the problem of dealing with a large number of Twitter messages. This frees up some time for them to deal with all those important website business tasks that add purpose to the building of a large network.
