Marketing Series #2: How To Build Your Twitter Network

Are you looking
for a free way to build traffic
to your website? Have you heard of Twitter marketing but have not
started to
use it? If so, this article is for you because twitter offers an
excellent way
for Internet marketers to build up an extensive social network of
contacts and
potential customers, free of charge.
Social
Networking is just a convenient method of
getting in contact with a crowd of people who want to exchange news and
comments with you.
Imagine that
social networking sites are places
where people gather online, similar to being at a cafe, bar or
at
someone's party. Just as in those situations, whoever freely shares
information
on Twitter or other social networking sites, or makes an effort to
communicate
with and respond to other members, will succeed in building deep
networks.
Your first aim
at a party is not to seek to do
business but to mix and mingle. However, if you come over well to the
people
you meet, they will be more likely to recommend you to someone in their
circle
at a later date.
It is just the
same with social networking on
Twitter.com. Think of your profile page as a kind of online business
card. Fill
it with some information about who you are and your line of business
and
include a link back to your Internet site.
When you send
messages on Twitter, do not make
every single one a blatant advertisement for your affiliate marketing
program,
otherwise you will be treated like a spammer. I don't mean you should
never
post links back to your website, but do so when you have added some
fresh
content that you can announce to your Twitter followers. On other
occasions,
post stuff about things you see on the Internet that may interest
others, or
post your opinions, ideas, snippets of news etc. without linking to a
site
every time you tweet. Then, when you do post a promotional link about
your
website, no one will mind.
Internet
marketing and especially Twitter
marketing, depends a lot on building a brand, i.e., YOU.
Yet, the best
way to do that is to keep your focus of attention on other people. On
Twitter,
you do that by opting to follow other people. Following other
individuals is the
name of the game when it comes to establishing your own following on
Twitter.
So which
Tweeters do you follow?
1. Follow
people who are amusing, who share info
and who link out to useful Internet sites.
2. Follow
people who follow people. At the top
of every Twitter page you'll find some data about how many followers
you have
and how many people you are following. Don't bother following
individuals who
have a much larger number of followers than the individuals they
follow. These
individuals are kind of stingy and are unlikely to follow you back if
you
follow them.
3. You can look
for people by inputting keywords
in the Find Person field. This will bring up people who have used that
keyword
as part of their ID and so it will help you to network with Twitter
members who
are likely to be interested in what you have to offer.
4. Use a tool
such as Twitter Grader to generate
a list of individuals whose interests are similar to yours.
5. Look up all
the people who follow people you
also follow. Often, they will follow you if you start to follow them.
If you actively
follow as many people as
possible, but especially those who have a lot of followers and also
follow a
lot of people (i.e. they reciprocate), you will quickly and effectively
build a
network on the Twitter social networking and mini blog site. If you
incorporate
these recommendations as laid out, then your Twitter marketing will be
a
success.
I
wish you the best of success,
