Web
Space Hosting For Beginners

An
Internet web space
hosting company typically operates a cluster of computers, otherwise
known as
"servers", which are connected to the Net on a permanent basis. The
word "permanent" needs to be qualified, however. Perhaps it would be
better to say that a hosting company AIMS for a permanent service, but
actually
even the best web hosting providers only actually achieve between 99%
and 99.9%
connectivity.
If
99% sounds pretty good,
bear in mind that 1% downtime per annum represents more than three and
a half
days of zero service for your website. Some cheap web space hosting
providers
achieve barely 97% connectivity which means you'd be looking at ten
days of enforced
downtime if you were careless enough to have your website hosted on
their
servers.
Once
a website has been
uploaded to an internet hosting company's servers, it can be called up
by any
computer with an Internet connection.
Therefore,
whenever you would
like to put out a website, your first step will be to find a web space
hosting
company. The whole process, from researching a web host to signing up
can be
done entirely online. When you open an account, you will be supplied
with a
user name and password so that you will be able to log on, access the web host's
server and up-load and
manage your web site.
Virtually
every website
owner designs their internet site on their computer. You can use
website
editing software, which makes the job easy, or if you are interested in
learning how to manipulate HTML, you can do it manually utilizing a
basic
notepad file.
You
can use a file transfer
protocol (FTP) client such as the free FileZilla FTP client (http://filezilla-project.org/)
to upload your web pages to
your host server, or you can upload files via your back office when you
log in
to your web host. After you've up-loaded your web files, your new
website will
be available to anybody browsing the Net.
If
you keep uploading new
material, your website will require additional disc space on the web
host's
servers. Besides, as traffic to your website increases, the quantity of
information being transferred over the internet will increase. This is
called
network transfer, or bandwidth.
Thus,
when picking out a
web space hosting provider, you'll want to look at how big your
internet site
is likely to be and how much traffic you're hoping to generate.
Focusing on
cost alone will leave you with a contract that doesn't afford your
internet
site elbow room to grow without violating the specified web space and
bandwidth
limits. If you go over the limits laid down in your contract, you will
have to
pay quite high premiums for the extra space and bandwidth you use.
I wish you the best
of success,
