Year's Resolutions For

When we
make New Year's resolutions, we’re
usually thinking about bad habits we would like to change for the
better, like
quitting smoking or losing weight, just to name two of the most common
resolutions. These resolutions are made at the beginning of every year,
and
they are quickly broken before the end of January.
But,
what about the bad habits that are
committed by the hundreds of thousands of global Internet marketing
people?
What are some New Year’s resolutions that Internet marketers
should be making?
What are some unhealthy habits that Internet marketers really
shouldn’t be
doing?
Here
are
my 10 New Year’s resolution suggestions
for global Internet marketing types all around the world:
1.
Stop
obsessing over website design and
appearance. When someone arrives on your website, they're mainly
looking for
information. If your web pages load quickly and present relevant and
useful
information, most of the people won't care about how your website
looks. So, in
2010, try focusing more on information and less on web design.
2.
Quit
wasting money on untargeted third-party
hits (visits) to your site, advertising Co-op's and all the other
packages
where you rely on other people to make you money. Spending any amount
of money
on bulk traffic programs that promise you thousands of hits to your web
pages
for just a few dollars may be cheap, but they’re a complete
waste of money.
Most advertising Co-op's I’ve been involved with have also
produced
disappointing results for the Co-op members. In 2010, resolve to do the
work
yourself to generate targeted traffic to your website.
3.
Improve conversion rates of the traffic your
website receives. Yes, this takes actual work. It means
you’ll have to focus on
the needs of your customers, tweak and test your web copy, split-test
your
landing pages and think about your follow-up techniques.
You’ll need to work on
improving the newsletters that you send out to your list as well.
4.
Realize you need to stop treating your
Internet business like a hobby and start treating it like a real
business! Yes,
I know this may be a shock for you, but despite all those photos on
certain
Internet network marketing sites of people relaxing on the beach, you
actually
have to work at it to be successful at Internet marketing! Make it your
resolution to work hard on achieving global Internet marketing success
in 2010.
5.
Spend
less time in Internet marketing forums
and on social networking sites. There’s no doubt
you’ll find a lot of good
advice, and you can build links back to your website via forum
signature files.
However, you can waste a lot of precious time chatting with others and
reading
opinionated and inaccurate posts from people who aren’t
really qualified or
simply don't know what they’re talking about. Spend more time
taking action on
what you’re learning.
Have
a
specific objective in mind whenever you
log onto a forum. Ask specific questions, and find questions in your
area of
expertise that you can answer. Know in advance how many messages you
plan to
post on the forum before you log in. Then do it and logout.
6.
Stop
posting generic affiliate sales pages on
traffic exchanges. Instead, learn how to make splash pages and how to
promote
yourself and not somebody else's business on the traffic exchanges.
7.
Concentrate more on making sales and on
improving your Alexa ranking. While it’s always good to see
your Alexa ranking
improve, don't obsess over it at the expense of making sales or
building your
list.
8.
Don't
obsess over keywords and search engine
rankings. Instead, make sure that your content is relevant, useful and
well
written. It’s the quality of service that you provide on your
website, in your
newsletter and in the articles and commentary you write and post
elsewhere
that’ll determine whether or not you make sales or increase
your sales volume.
9.
Use
video. Video is a great way of adding
content and personalizing your website. If you haven't started making
videos
yet, make it a key resolution to do so in 2010.
10.
Unsubscribe from all those newsletters.
Instead of trying to read everything that is going on, find a small
handful of
the most successful Internet marketers whom you really respect, and
read
everything that they write. Rather than clogging up your e-mail inbox
with
junk, freely unsubscribe from all the second-rate mailing lists that
you have
joined over the previous year.
Finally,
resolve to spend more time with your
loved ones without feeling that you "ought to be promoting your global
Internet marketing business." Oh, and have a great and successful year
in
2010.
I wish you the
best
of success,
John Baril
